Panic Attacks (Panic Disorder) is a condition where a person has an acute attack of panic without warning. A panic attack typically lasts for several minutes and is extremely upsetting and frightening.

The symptoms vary from person to person, as do the triggers and underlying causes.

In some cases people report sensations and symptoms similar to those of a heart attack and often present to the accident and emergency department of the hospital.

The symptoms of Panic Disorder include:

  • Racing or pounding heart

  • Chest pains or heaviness in the chest, inability to catch one’s breath

  • Dizziness and light-headedness

  • Tingling in the hands, feet, legs or arms

  • Sweaty palms, trembling

  • Fear of losing control/going crazy/dying
